WHAT IS RESOLUTION 753 BAGGAGE TRACKING?
Does everyone know what Resolution 753 is about? It is relevant that “IATA members shall maintain an accurate inventory of baggage by monitoring the acquisition and delivery of baggage” This resolution has been issued since June 2018, and the aim is to reduce chance of baggage mishandling and turnaround time by implementing cross-industry tracking for end to end baggage journey around the airports. It is a comprehensive 4 mandatory tracking points (1. Check-in 2. Load 3. Transfer 4. Arrival), and sharing the data with everyone involved in the journey, as needed.
WHY 753 HAS BECOME MORE USEFUL FOR AIRLINES AND AIRPORTS?
In baggage report 2018, they found that:
- There are 4.08 Billion Scheduled Passengers In 2017
- There are 5.57 Mishandled Bags Per Thousand Passengers In 2017
- US$2.3 billion baggage mishandling cost to the industry
With this information, the resolution 753 is accuracy demanding that airline tracking their bag at four key points for reduced cost of mishandling baggage.
By implementing 753, rate of mishandled bags since 2007 was reduced to 70.5% So, airline will better able to manage baggage operation and improve more revenue from reducing mishandling bag. On the other side, airport can directly improve on-time departure and undoubtedly allow for less flight delays due to missing baggage.
